Richmond’s Night Out for Safety and Liberation
Tuesday, Aug. 7
Hosted by the RYSE Center, Richmond’s Night Out for Safety and Liberation on Tuesday, Aug. 7 is meant to be a night of celebration, family and friends featuring artists, performers, resources, family-friendly activities and food.
The gathering will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the RYSE Center, 205 41st St. Richmond. The event is free.
The RYSE Center encourages event-goers to connect with neighbors, friends, and family, and join the conversation on what creates safety. That includes quality jobs, affordable housing, racial and gender justice, youth empowerment, immigrant rights and more.

Point Richmond Music Concerts Heat Up in August
Friday, Aug. 10
Point Richmond Music (PRM) continues its free summer concert series into August with internationally renowned
singer, songwriter, fiddler, and bandleader Laurie Lewis and the Right Hands.
The concert will run from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10 in Point Richmond, on Park Place between West Richmond and Washington avenues.
Following Laurie Lewis and the Right hands, the Mad Maggies — covering everything from world rock, ska, cajun/zydeco, R&B, klezmer and polka — will take the stage at 6:45 p.m.
August’s concert is the third in a four-concert series put together by PRM on the second Friday of each month, running through September. Along with the musical concert, there will be drawing, arts and education booths and face-painting for children. Dancing in the street is highly encouraged.
Local restaurants and food trucks will be on site offering an array of food options. There will be limited festival-style seating available so bringing your own lawn chair is advised.
Rosie the Riveter Comes Back Home
Saturday, Aug. 11
The Rosie the Riveter Home Front Rally returns to Richmond’s Craneway Pavilion from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 11. This free, family-friendly event will feature swing dance lessons, a home front history hike, and a costume contest.
Festival-goers are encouraged to update the Rosie look to represent home front occupations in creative ways to honor the ordinary people of all backgrounds, ethnicities and communities who stepped up to offer their services during WWII.
Music on the Main Final Concert
Wednesday, Aug. 22
The 17th Annual Music on the Main finishes with its final summer concert from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22 at the intersection of Marina Way and MacDonald Boulevard.
Headlining the concert will be zydeco, accordion and soul performer Andre Thierry. The streets will be filled with food and drink vendors, shopping, a youth zone, giveaways and more in a free, family-friendly environment. •
