10 Nov Pittsburg Residents Elect Two New Faces to City Council

Pittsburg will have a new look on the City Council for at least the next couple of years.

With Mayor Holland White and council member Merl Craft both deciding not to run again, only incumbent Vice Mayor Shanelle Scales-Preston won reelection Tuesday night, with 26% of the vote.

Joining her from the field of six candidates on the next council will be Dionne Adams and Angelica Lopez. All three are Pittsburg natives. Adams received 23% of the vote and Lopez garnered 21%.

During the campaign, Scales-Preston, who joined the council in 2018, touted her work in creating the city’s youth commission, adopting the youth and young adult master plan, and helping to reopen the city’s marina center in January 2023. She has also prioritized public transportation and housing and homeless issues.

Adams is a member of the city’s planning commission and says she brings more than 20 years of public policy and management experience to her new role. She’s also on the board of the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce.

Lopez is a family lawyer and entrepreneur who says on her Facebook page she fights for the rights of children daily. She has been a Pittsburg resident for 32 years.
