Cooling Centers Open Amid Bay Area Heat Wave in Antioch, Richmond

The city of Antioch is opening cooling centers this week as the temperatures climb into triple digits.

From Tuesday through Monday of next week except for Thursday for the Fourth of July holiday, the Nick Rodriguez Community Center (213 F St.) and the Antioch Community Center (4703 Lone Tree Way) will be open from noon to 8 p.m.

A cooling center at the Antioch Water Park (4701 Lone Tree Way) will open Thursday when the Antioch Community Center will be closed.

Due to an excessive heat warning issued for the area beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday and running through 8 p.m. Saturday, the city of Richmond is making available cooling centers to beat the heat.

The County Employment and Health Services Department building at 1305 MacDonald Ave. will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday (closed the Fourth of July).

The Nevin Park Resilience Hub at 589 Nevin Ave. will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Cities and counties in the Bay Area will be opening their cooling centers to the public starting Tuesday to help residents avoid the sweltering heat poised to prevail over the region through the weekend.

The National Weather Service issued an Excessive Heat Warning for 11 a.m. Tuesday through 8 p.m. Sunday for the Marin Coastal Range, Sonoma Coastal Range, North Bay Interior Mountains, North Bay Interior Valleys, East Bay Interior Valleys, Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Clara Valley, Eastern Santa Clara Hills, East Bay Hills, Southern Salinas Valley, and Interior Monterey.

The following are the available cooling centers to the public:

American Canyon — American Canyon Library at 300 Crawford Way (from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Saturday; and from noon to 8 p.m. on Wednesday)

Calistoga — Calistoga Community Center at 1307 Washington Street (from noon to 8 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday)

Concord — Concord Senior Center at 2727 Parkside Circle (from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Saturday)

Greenfield — City Hall at 599 El Camino Real (from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday to Friday)
Greenfield Community Science Workshop at 45 El Camino Real (from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday to Saturday)

Healdsburg — Healdsburg Senior Center at at 133 Matheson Street (from 11 a.m to 7 p.m., Tuesday to Wednesday)

Napa — Napa Library at 580 Coombs Street (9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday)

Petaluma — COTS Mary Isaak Center at 900 Hopper Street in Petaluma (from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday)

Rohnert Park — Rohnert Park Community Center at 5401 Snyder Lane ( 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Wednesday and Friday to Sunday)
