Editor’s note: We asked a few residents about their plans to vote locally and nationally — particularly their choice for president. Their responses have been lightly edited and are presented in alphabetical order by their last name.
Deana Cain, Richmond, 39
I am going to vote. I always vote nationally and locally. The local stuff I haven’t really paid too much attention to. I need to jump into that. But nationally, I’m always going to vote for Kamala Harris.
I’ve been a fan of her since she was the [assistant district attorney] for San Francisco. I like her Back on Track program because I have a brother who was in the system, and her wanting to help reduce the recidivism rate within the Black and Brown community is a big deal to me.
So with her trying to bring that program to the state of California and then trying to make it national, it shows that she really has a heart for the people.
Leana Cheromiah, Richmond, 47
I will vote in both. But most certainly nationally.
Kamala, for sure. Because women’s rights and a whole list of other things — definitely don’t want that monster. The person who is competing against her should not be qualified to even be standing at that podium as far as I’m concerned.
Steven Coambs, Richmond, 41
Absolutely voting down the ticket, voting blue.
So Harris, Walz and then blue down the ticket.
Why? Because Trump is the scariest human being, like on the planet currently. The fact that he [is] telling people that they’re eating dogs in Springfield, Ohio, and that criminals are coming here in droves from other countries, that’s insane. And it’s divisive, and it’s dividing our country and making people think that other human beings are the enemy when, really, he is.
Arturo Cruz, 50, San Pablo
I will vote to help do my civic duty and also to help improve the quality of life wherever possible. I am voting for Kamala Harris.
Karen Evans, San Pablo, 60
I’m voting for Trump because he’s a leader. He shows confidence. He doesn’t ever hide when he’s asked questions. He doesn’t disappear and just comes back when they want to come.
He’s very real to me. And what he says, that’s what we need right now.
All the cases that they are bringing up now, they should have done while he was the president.
But right now, it’s a political thing, you know.
Everything is fake. They are trying to stop him from being in the White House again.
