West Contra Costa Unified School District unveiled its newest science building for middle and high schoolers this week.
The building is for Hercules middle and high school students and was built to reaffirm West Contra Costa’s commitment to STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) education, district officials said in a statement.
“As a woman in STEM, I’m particularly proud to stand here and see the resources that can empower all young minds to envision a future where they can be real contributions to the world,” said Aleena Khan, a senior at Hercules High, in a statement.
The building has eight labs and gives students more space for experiments, Interim Superintendent Kim Moses said.
“At West Contra Costa Unified, we believe that every student deserves a safe, modern, and inspiring place to learn,” Moses said in a statement. “The opening of this new science building is more than just the addition of classrooms — it’s an investment in the future.”
