The third annual Senior Transportation Workshop, titled “Richmond Seniors on the Go-Go,” will be held April 2 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Richmond Senior Center at 2525 Macdonald Ave.

The goal of the program, which is open to the public, is to help seniors more comfortably access various transportation services in the region.

“This workshop is a fantastic opportunity for our seniors to gain confidence and independence in their transportation options,” said Bryan Harris, transportation chair of the Richmond Commission on Aging. “We are committed to making transportation accessible and seamless for all Richmond residents.”

Attendees will receive hands-on assistance from R-Transit and Clipper Card staff on how to sign up and use services such as RAPID R-Transit, Richmond Moves, BART/Clipper Card and Seamless Bay Area.

RAPID R-Transit subsidizes door-to-door services via Lyft and Uber for residents who are aged 55 or older and/or disabled who live in Richmond, North Richmond, Kensington and El Sobrante for trips in those areas as well as El Cerrito, Pinole, San Pablo and the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Veterans hospital in Martinez.

Richmond Moves is a free on-demand shuttle service meant to help “residents to easily connect with key transit hubs in the region,” according to the city of Richmond.

BART provides train service to many points in the Bay Area. Clipper, which may be used on a physical card or via smartphone app, lets users tap to pay for rides on several public transportation providers throughout the Bay Area. Seamless Bay Area is a nonprofit transit network service that advocates for operating all mass transit in the region as a single unified system.

The Commission on Aging works to improve the quality of life for older adults in Richmond through advocacy, education and community engagement. It meets the first Friday of each month at 10 a.m. at Richmond Memorial Auditorium.
