The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit Board of Directors announced Tuesday the opening of an application period to fill a seat on the board following the death last month of longtime director H.E. Christian Peeples.
The board in October will appoint someone to fill the seat representing AC Transit’s Ward 1, which includes Albany, El Cerrito, El Sobrante, Richmond, San Pablo, and the unincorporated areas of Kensington, East Richmond Heights, North Richmond, and Rollingwood.
The person appointed will serve until at least through November 2026, when the seat will be up for election to serve the remainder of Peeples’ term, which was set to run through Dec. 1, 2028, according to AC Transit.
The bus agency on Aug. 8 announced the death of Peeples, who had served on the Board of Directors since 1997.
Anyone interested in applying for the seat on the seven-member board must live within the boundary of Ward 1 and be registered to vote. The board meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays each month and has various committee meetings as well.
Applicants must include a resume, letter of interest, and letters of recommendation from three individuals or organizations. The deadline to apply is noon on Oct. 8.
