31 Oct Antioch High School Football Team Forfeits Game Due to Disciplinary Action Against ‘Significant Portion’ of Roster

The Antioch High School varsity football team had to forfeit its game against Liberty High School on Thursday night because of disciplinary action taken against “a significant portion” of the roster, the school’s principal said in a letter to the campus community.

Antioch High was set to play Liberty High in Brentwood on Thursday evening, but earlier in the day, principal John Jimno sent out a letter announcing that the team would have to forfeit “in response to violations of the District’s Code of Conduct.”

Jimno wrote that he was legally prohibited from sharing the specific violations but confirmed that it “involves a significant portion of the varsity football team.”

The principal said the decision to forfeit was made between the leadership teams of both Antioch High School and the Antioch Unified School District and “reflects our commitment to accountability, personal responsibility, and the values we expect all students to uphold.”

Jimno wrote that the forfeit was only a part of the disciplinary process and is “the first step in ensuring that our Code of Conduct is upheld.”

The Antioch High football team had a 7-1 record before the forfeit. School officials did not say whether the team’s last regular season game, set for Nov. 8 at Pittsburg High School, will take place as planned.
