Contra Costa County is inviting residents to apply for four vacancies with an advisory body that helps guide the development of a new countywide support network for vulnerable African American residents.
The African American Holistic Wellness and Resource Hub Transitional Community Advisory Body, known as the TCAB, was created by the Board of Supervisors and advises the Office of Racial Equity and Social Justice on choosing an independent lead entity to run the wellness hub. It also offers guidance on selecting community-based organizations that will provide rapid-response services.
Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Dec. 15. Candidates will be interviewed by the Board of Supervisors’ Equity Committee, which will then recommend appointments to the full board, county officials said in a statement Monday.
The TCAB is made up of 13 members and three alternates, all county residents with personal or professional experience serving vulnerable African American communities. The group aims for broad demographic and district representation. Meetings take place on the second Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m., with additional meetings scheduled as needed.
The county is recruiting one regular TCAB member and three alternates. Alternate members may fill in for absent voting members during meetings.
TCAB members review and provide input on several areas, including criteria for selecting the implementation lead entity, the executive director and board of directors, the community council, and rapid-response service providers. They also weigh in on outreach and recruitment strategies for these positions. To prevent conflicts of interest, applicants cannot have professional or close personal ties to any individuals or organizations seeking roles within the hub.
Residents with lived or professional experience supporting vulnerable African American communities are encouraged to apply.
County officials said TCAB members serve without pay, and the advisory body will dissolve once a nonprofit lead entity, its Board of Directors, and a Community Council are formally established. Service is expected to last about a year.
Applicants should select “African American Holistic Wellness and Resource Hub Transitional Community Advisory Body” under the “Board and Interest” section of the county’s application form. Applications are available from the Clerk of the Board at (925) 655-2000 or online. Completed forms may be submitted online, emailed to ClerkoftheBoard@cob.cccounty.us, or mailed to the Clerk of the Board at 1025 Escobar St., Martinez.
