A child was shot in the head in Antioch on Monday while in the car with her family, police said.
Officers responded to a parking lot of an apartment complex at 3915 Delta Fair Blvd. on Monday and learned that an 11-year-old girl had been shot in the head while inside a vehicle.
After the shooting, the vehicle left the parking lot and headed to a nearby shopping center lot, where officers responded.
First responders located the child and rendered aid. She was taken to the hospital and as of Monday afternoon was listed in stable condition, according to police.
Police believe that the shooting took place in the parking lot as the child was sitting in the passenger seat of her family’s car as they were exiting the lot. The family does not appear to have been the intended targets, the Antioch Police Department said.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact Antioch Police Detective John Cox at (925) 481-8147 or via email at jcox@antiochca.gov.
