Public comments are being accepted through the end of March for residents in Antioch to chime in on a grant application from the police department to purchase five new off-road vehicles.
The Antioch Police Department is proposing to apply to buy an off-road vehicle and four dual-sport motorcycles, which are designed for use on paved roads and unpaved trails and surfaces.
The grant is offered by the California Department of Parks and Recreation.
The new tools would be used to enforce laws regulating off-highway vehicles, known as OHVs, which must meet certain specifications under state regulations.
The police vehicles could also be used in regular enforcement and to aid in search-and-rescue operations, according to a statement from the Antioch Police Department.
Requests for a copy of the grant application and comments can be sent to officer Nick Shipilov at nshipilov@antiochca.gov.
Comments can be received until March 31.
