Richmond Mayor Tom Butt has announced that Richmond’s commute-hours ferry service to San Francisco will soon include weekend service.

“Great news,” the mayor wrote in in his e-forum newsletter.

“Weekend WETA Richmond Ferry Service should be commencing this August.”

Butt said that he has been helping facilitate a pilot program for the additional ferry service. Funding for the expansion was approved by the Contra Costa Transportation Authority at a June 19 meeting.

“Based upon this, WETA will move forward with its contract service provider to begin gearing up to start services in August and will work to create marketing and outreach materials,” Butt wrote.
