Antioch Mayor Lamar Thorpe is hosting an inter-religious unity and healing vigil Thursday evening regarding the ongoing Antioch police scandal.

Thorpe will be joined by the Rev. Kwang-il Kim of Antioch United Methodist Church, Rabbi Peretz Goldshmid of Chabad of the Delta and Intisar Malhi of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community at the 6:30 p.m. event at the Antioch Community Center at 4703 Lone Tree Way.

Thorpe’s office released a statement saying, “Earlier this year Antioch was rocked by revelations of racism, federal indictments, and state investigations. Many members of the community were both shocked and hurt by the news.”

“The revelations also brought about threats of violence. As a result, Mayor Thorpe canceled the annual State of the City address. In lieu, Mayor Thorpe is hosting a unity and healing vigil. As of Wednesday evening, an estimated 200 residents have registered for the event,” Thorpe’s office said.
