Little Caesar’s will be serving fresh, hot pizza on Monday to the homeless community in Richmond at the Bay Area Rescue Mission, courtesy of the Little Caesars Love Kitchen, the shelter said Saturday.

The Love Kitchen is a fully equipped pizza kitchen on a colorful 18-wheel semi tractor-trailer rig traveling the country. Two Love Kitchens operate in the U.S., one serving the western region and the other the east, delivering freshly made pizza to patrons of soup kitchens, homeless shelters and those affected by major disasters, including victims and first responders. This will mark Little Caesar’s fifth year of spreading pizza love at BARM.

The West Coast mobile kitchen will park in front of the shelter located at 200 Macdonald Ave. at 9:30 a.m. to start baking the pizzas and will depart once all are ready. The BARM will assist in serving shelter guests in the kitchen from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

“Serving pizza to those in need is our way of giving back to communities where we do business,” said Lisa Ruthven from Little Caesar’s corporate office. “Since we started this program in 1985, we’ve served pizza to more than 3.7 million people who were struggling in one way or another.”

Afterwards, due to COVID precautions, pizza will be served just outside the shelter from noon to 12:45 p.m. to any hungry community resident. BARM expects to serve 2 free slices of pizza, along with pasta salad made in the BARM kitchen, to about 100 individuals.

The shelter encourages anyone in need to come enjoy free pizza.

“Our guests are always excited to see the huge orange pizza truck parked in front of the mission,” said mission chef Chris Dykes. “Just seeing the brightly decorated tractor-trailer kitchen is part of the fun. Yes, they enjoy the great pizza, but it’s more than that. The Love Kitchen shows our struggling neighbors that others in the community care about them, as well.”
